Best Blackout Curtains for Bedrooms
Why most 'blackout' bedrooms still leak light, and the four details that actually make a room dark.

Light leaks at the edges, not the middle
Almost every disappointing blackout installation fails at four points: the top gap above the track, the sides, the centre overlap and the floor. Blackout fabric solves none of these on its own.
The fixes are simple but must be planned: a wrap-around or ceiling-mounted track, side returns to the wall, at least 100mm centre overlap, and panels long enough to sit close to the floor.
Fabric versus lining
You can either use a dedicated blackout fabric or take any decorative fabric and add a blackout lining behind it. The second option almost always looks better: you keep the texture and colour you want on the room side, and the technical layer stays hidden.
Add a roller behind the curtain
For a genuinely dark room — a night-shift worker or a baby's room — a blackout roller with side channels inside the recess, plus drapery in front, is the most reliable combination we install.
